Hello and welcome to Stage Right, the online drama ministry of EXW. My name is Dave Marsh and there are a few things you should probably know about me. First, I'm not a ‘theatre guy.' I've never quoted Shakespeare (at least seriously), and I've never played Daddy Warbucks in Annie. Second, I received my ‘training' in writing, directing, and acting at a church called Willow Creek (in Illinois.) Third, I'm an online games producer by trade but my real passion is found in telling others about Christ through contemporary church drama. I have a few opinions about drama in the church as well. I think that contemporary drama is both underutilized and misunderstood. I believe it is something like 5-10 years behind contemporary worship. When many churches think about using drama, it usually involves the Passion Play or a children's Christmas musical. Many people don't have the opportunity to experience what are called ‘slice of life' dramas. These dramas may last only 3-4 minutes long but create a powerful (and many times humorous) illustration on any given Sunday. I also believe that any church, no matter what size, can use drama effectively, giving God glory, and inspire/convict normal folks like you and I to walk closer to God So, what's Stage Right all about? It's about offering you the advice and resources you need to help you create and act in contemporary Christian dramas. I'm no expert, but I've seen lives changed as I continue to strive for excellence in this area, constantly praying that God would use me to tell others about how to live for Him. Over the coming weeks and months, I hope to provide you with articles about creating a drama philosophy, working with your pastor, developing a team, writing short effective scripts, directing actors, and acting on stage. I also look forward to hearing from you, taking suggestions on topics that you feel should be covered Over the last 3 years, I've written over 45 dramas that are easy to memorize, require few actors, and are highly humorous and relevant. These dramas are available to you for free and will be added to this site over the course of the next few months. You can currently download all of these dramas from my personal site (www.dave-marsh.com) and can contact me personally if you wish (dave). I look forward to serving you here at EXW and want to thank Steve for asking me to jump on board. In His hands Dave Marsh

I Got Me Some Bills

Director’s Notes: We’ve all heard that Jesus talks more about money than any other single subject. Why? Because if there’s anything that we keep our hands clenched around it’s money. If we can trust God with our kids and our future, why can’t we trust Him with our resources? This drama can also be used…

I Got Me a Job

Director’s Notes: This is the setup drama for a stewardship series. The following sketches (I got me some bills, I got me no time, and I got me no job) will show that we need to make sure that we give God charge of our time, treasures and talents. Cast: Dave: An average man Teri:…

Born again and again…

Director’s Notes: I’ve known a number of people who have become a Christian a dozen times. Well, they think they have. When someone comes to know Christ, it’s  a joyous experience but following Christ is a long distance run (as I previously mentioned.) What happens when we ‘lose that feeling’ we had when we first became…

Da Friends

Director’s Notes: Remember the Saturday Night Live skits that featured the guys that sat around talking about Ditka and “Da Bears?” Well this is a fun, light drama about 2 buddies who are having “extreme fellowship.” 🙂 BTW, you’ll have to update the players on the teams… Cast: John: A guy Dave: John’s buddy Peggy:…

A Boy Named Biff

Director’s Notes: Telling others about Christ is the Great Commission. We all know that but sometimes we need to be reminded that He has wired us all up a little different when it comes to sharing our faith. This drama shows that depending on who we are, there is a way that we can effectively…

The Attic

Director’s Notes: Some of my dramas feature characters that are a bit over the top. In fact, they carry a particular subject to the extreme. The Attic is one of those dramas – no one really has a box of ‘miracle stuff’ but it’s these extremes that provide an awesome contrast to the real answer:…

The Fence

Director’s Notes: I wrote this drama to get people off their butts and out to the 40 Days of Purpose series. Of course, this drama can also be used for topics such as ‘sitting on the fence’, ‘commitment’ and such. I’ve got a fence graphic that you can put on the screen behind the actors….

The Johnson Account

Director’s Notes: You know what’s so great about the Holy Spirit? He works so wonderfully in the life of the believer. He prompts, leads, comforts, and convicts (just to name a few!) If we are quiet enough, we can hear the Spirit speak to our spirit. I can’t imagine what life would be like without…

Expect The Unexpected

Director’s Notes: Let’s face it – life’s rough. Jesus never promised a walk-in-the-park but, instead, He said that life was going to be full of trouble but He’s here to help us through it. What a great thing to know! Life is always throwing the unexpected in our face and yet, to God, it’s not…

It’s a God Thing

Director’s Notes: When people talk about a difficult adventure or journey they went on, I usually think about hiking on some mountain or across the country. God, however, sends us on difficult journeys every day. These journeys start when we seek God’s direction for our lives through prayer and study. He will often then take…
