Psalm 66:3-4 “Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds!” So great is your power that your enemies cringe before you. All the earth bows down to you; they sing praise to you, they sing praise to your name.”
A favorite song of Christians everywhere is “Our God Is An Awesome God” as it speaks to the grandeur and reverence of God, but yet talks about the wrath of God. One cannot equate God with love without recognizing the fact that above all He reigns in supreme justice and thereby had no choice but to send His Son to satisfy His own judicial system. I was curious what the dictionary would say about the word awesome. There wasn’t a whole lot to the particular word, awesome; but, it referred the reader back to the root word, awe, which said, “A mixed feeling of reverence, fear, and wonder caused by something majestic, sublime, sacred, etc.” How true! When we come before God, it’s not like He’s a coffee partner we only meet on Tuesday mornings, or some casual human acquaintance we go to the gym with, but this is the God of everything that has ever been since the beginning of time, everything that is, and all that will ever be in the future for all eternity. My soul is filled with gratefulness and I want to live a life honoring Him because I know what I could have so easily become but for the grace of God.
